Vicoustic new HQ
Vicoustic are making waves in the industry with their new HQ and Manufacturing facility in Portugal. It’s set to be the largest factory in the world in the acoustics sector.
They produce a range of acoustic absorbers and diffusers to help tame and control acoustics in Home Cinema, HiFi, recording studio and commercial environments.
Some of their acoustic products include a variety of panels, fabrics, tiles and acoustic foam. Their use in critical listening environments is to provide a more neutral listening environment, reduce distortions and reverberation and to balance out a rooms acoustic properties using the following acoustic products;
Absorption
Acoustic absorption is the process in which something absorbs sound energy when sound waves collide with it, instead of reflecting that energy all back outwards part of the soundwave is absorbed into energy and turned into heat.
Bass Traps
Bass traps work on the principal of absorption, they are however designed to dampen very low frequency sound (Bass) by reducing the resonance in rooms. Typically they are used in home cinemas and recording studios. They work by turning low frequency sound waves and energy into heat thus dissipating sound.
Diffusion
Diffusers work by scattering soundwaves, they work in tandem with absorption but instead of removing sound energy they dissipate it in a variety of directions rather than reflecting the sound at an angle of incidence. They are used to liven up smaller rooms or stop a treated room from sounding dead.
New HQ
Vicoustic’s new HQ is huge, 6,000 square meters and is costing 2,500,000 Euros to build.
Founded in 2007, Vicoustic sells their acoustic products in more than 70 countries across the world. Its list of distinguished clients in the audio industry happens to include film director Michael Moore and U2 audio engineer Alastair McMillan, whose personal studio, in Belfast, Ireland, is equipped with Vicoustics acoustics.
