Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to some of the home cinema questions that we encounter, frequently.
What type of rooms and buildings can be transformed into a home cinema?
As long as it’s structurally solid, safe from rain, snow, damp, cold etc… then most buildings are suitable. For example an under-utilised room, annex, cellar, garage, extension, barns, or even a cabin out in the garden.
Do I need Dolby Atmos? What is it anyway?
Yes you do, Dolby Atmos is arguably the most exciting thing to happen to cinema for decades. Previously sound was only 2 Dimensional, it could surround you but only on one axis. Dolby Digital allows height channels to be heard independently, taking surround sound into the 3rd dimension. So that helicopter really does sound like it’s overhead.
What about the sound system?
A good sound system is crucial for a home cinema room. We will work with your home to design in surround and ceiling speakers so that the soundtracks to the Movies & TV you watch sound amazing.
What if I’m building a brand new house?
If you’re building a new house get in touch as soon as you’ve decided to have a home cinema. The dimensions of the room are important. Some rooms (perfect squares for example) being very difficult to tame acoustically. No need to be fighting the room if you can choose it’s dimensions from the outset.
Is it going to be easy to use?
For you to get the most out of your home cinema room it’s got to be so simple to use that anyone in the home can use it. On our initial consultation we will take into consideration your circumstances and design and engineer the system for you to be as easy as you want. For example, one button turns everything on and another button turns it all off, simple.
Will it have cool lighting?
Yes - controlled lighting is important for a good viewing experience. We will design in lighting schemes that match your home but bring some drama to the cinema with cool mood lighting, colours, star-ceilings even if you like.
Can it match my local commercial cinema?
It will be better. Commercial cinemas are designed for huge spaces, and to fit as many people in as feasibly possible due to economics. Because we have a much smaller, more controlled area to work with, we can engineer it to outperform the commercial cinema both visually and acoustically. You’ll also be considerably more comfortable.
Do I need a big room?
No, you do not need a big room for a home cinema. A dedicated room with a good audio-visual setup can provide an immersive viewing experience, regardless of its size. We choose a screen that is appropriate for the room size, keeping in mind the recommended viewing distance for the screen size.
